The vision of the Ferry Foundation is to enhance existing routes and facilities in order to expand waterborne public transit options for locals and tourists alike by promoting a more convenient and greener alternative than crossing the river by bridge.
THE SCULPTURE WALK
OUR BACKGROUND
The Ferry Foundationwas born out of the 501(C)4, Friends Of The Ferry. After the levee failures resulting from Hurricane Katrina In 2005, The Friends Of The Ferry successfully lobbied to get full ferry service restore to the City of New Orleans, a move hailed by many as being essential to the recovery of the Greater New Orleans area.
THE FERRY FOUNDATION is heading an innovative project built on the sustainable benefits of connection through public art and public transportation. Citizens and visitors will be connected to world class public art, to each other and to economic opportunity. The health of the community will also be supported through the use of an existing biking and walking path along the levee and a custom-designed education program. By integrating public art and public transit from ferries to pedestrians to bikes, Sculpture Walk promotes art in a purely egalitarian way . For more information Click Here.
OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER
Every year since 2006, The Ferry Foundation and our sister organization, Friends of the Ferry, has taken Christmas dinner to both shifts of ferry crews having to keep the ferries running at Chalmette, Canal St., and Gretna on Christmas day.
